Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached China on Thursday morning on a three-day visit. He met Chinese President Xi Jinping and has proceeded for talks. A range of issues including the festering border dispute and China’s plans for infrastructure projects in PoK are likely to be discussed.

9:22 am: Meanwhile, the Chinese official media today said that PM Modi will be accorded the ‘highest-level reception’ by President Xi Jinping as the two leaders look to deepen their ties. He will arrive in Beijing later tonight and meet Premier Li Keqiang tomorrow for talks. Modi’s visit to Xi’an, hometown of Xi Jinping, is seen as a reciprocal visit of Jinping’s visit to Gujarat.

8.47 am: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the famous Terracotta Warriors museum which has a large collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China.

08.30 am: PM Modi would later visit the famous Buddhist Dashang temple in Shaanxi province, the home province of President Xi, who has restored its old glory by making it the headquarters of his mega Silk Road projects.

08.00 am: Prime Minister Modi has begun his visit to China with the city of Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province and also the home province of President Xi Jinping. As Indian Express had reported earlier, “a key reason behind Modi’s visit to President Xi’s home province — Lao Jia (Old house in Mandarin), as the Chinese proudly say — was that leaders from Shaanxi have become a powerful group in China’s top decision-making bodies.”
