Kerala: Maoists attack international food chain KFC, target two forest offices

Two forest offices and one KFC restaurant were attacked in different parts of Kerala on Monday. While forest offices were attacked in the wee hours, the restaurant in Palakkad was targeted in the early morning.

Recovery of pro-Maoist literature and pamphlets from all three targets of attack raised the suspicion that CPI (Maoists) were behind the attacks.

According to police, a forest office at Silent Valley near tribal belt Attappadi in Palakkad, was attacked by a gang. A jeep parked in the office compound was torched. They assailants had posted pro-Maoist posters on the office building. The furniture and computers in the office were destroyed. The posters have urged people to join armed struggle.

In Wayanad, a forest outpost at Kunjom near Periya Reserve Forest was attacked. Only the window panes of the office were damaged.

Two weeks back, there was an alleged incident of exchange of fire between police and Maoist at Vellamunda in Wayanad. In Palakkad, the KFC outlet was attacked by a gang in the early morning.

In the recent months, there have been several stray incidents of attacks, attributed to Maoists. But, police have failed to prove the cases.
