Central Kerala range’s Inspector General of Police T J Jose was caught on Monday for allegedly cheating during an LLM examination conducted by MG University. The government has ordered a probe and asked the officer to go on leave.
Jose was appearing for the LLM improvement examination conducted by the university under its off-campus scheme.
The invigilator caught Jose red-handed as he was copying answers from a piece of paper. He was carrying a few pages from a textbook. The invigilator, who had no clue Jose was a senior police officer, asked him to leave the exam hall.
An inquiry by the college’s vice-principal confirmed that the senior officer had indulged in malpractice. The varsity’s controller of examination has asked college authorities not to allow Jose to sit for Tuesday’s exam.
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said North Zone Additional DGP N Shanker Reddy would probe the incident. He said it remains to be considered whether such officers should be tolerated in the force.
Jose denied reports that he had cheated during the exam. “I’m on leave for attending the exam. I spoke to the invigilators after the exam and they did not speak of any such incident. I will turn up for the exam tomorrow as well,’’ he said.
