The Rajasthan police finally booked former Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen K T Parnaik, on charges of fraud in a 2010 land scam case. Five years after the alleged fraud, Lt Gen Parnaik was booked for cheating, fraud and forgery in FIR No. 192, registered recently at Bikaner's Jainarayan Vyas Colony police station. The retired officer presently stays in Mundhwa, Pune. According to the FIR accessed by The Indian Express, Lt Gen Parnaik took possession of a land measuring 23 bighas in Mohangarh tehsil in Rajasthan by furnishing fake affidavits. The FIR further stated that while the accused showed himself as a resident of Jawahar Nagar, the complainant Pushpendra alleged that the same house was owned by a man called Dharamchand Gera. [related-post] “Mr Gera had been residing in the house no. 3/KA/6, Jawahar Nagar since 1990. He was allotted the plot in 1974 on which he constructed a house and started living there. Lt Gen Parnaik showed himself as resident of a house that belonged to somebody else. Now, since the FIR has been registered against him, I hope the police do a fair investigation,” Pushpendra told The Indian Express. Lt Gen Parnaik had received the agricultural land for being awarded a Yudh Seva Medal (YSM). However, according to the complainant, Lt Gen Parnaik furnished a fake affidavit showing himself to be a resident of Jaipur in 2009 to take possession of the land. Reacting to the development, Lt Gen Parnaik told The Indian Express: “The complainant, Pushpendra had earlier filed three cases against me, in a sessions court at Jaipur, the Armed Forces Tribunal at Chandigarh and in the Delhi High Court. All three cases were disposed of. He is the son of a JCO of my regiment. Somehow, he believes I was responsible for his father’s death. As far as the FIR in Bikaner is concerned, I am shocked. I have not been approached by the police yet. It was nothing but a typographic error while writing my address.”
