Youth charged with sedition for clicking pictures of crowded places

Mohammed Hussein Ali Qureshi, a resident of Kalburgi who works as a nameplate artist and vendor for an Urdu daily, was arrested from Sambra airport in Belagavi while he was allegedly photographing it Tuesday.

A 21-year-old has been arrested in Belagavi in north Karnataka for sedition for allegedly photographing important places, including airports, railway stations and bus stations across the state on his smartphone camera. The police have also picked up three others from Kalburgi town for questioning.

Mohammed Hussein Ali Qureshi, a resident of Kalburgi who works as a nameplate artist and vendor for an Urdu daily, was arrested from Sambra airport in Belagavi while he was allegedly photographing it Tuesday.

According to the probe, Qureshi had photographed more than 36 crucial places. “We found he had photographed only crowded areas such as airports, railway stations and bus stands. He clicked pictures of the tight security at check posts near airports and their entrances,” S Ravi, Belagavi city police commissioner told The Indian Express. Ravi said Qureshi told the police he was assigned to take the photographs by Ejaz Seth, a photographer for an Urdu daily in Kalburgi.
