Two armed men fled after allegedly firing two rounds inside an Ulhasnagar trader’s office on Monday afternoon, the police said.
According to the police, the accused rode to the office of Akash Chaturvedi, the president of an Ulhasnagar trader’s association, on a two-wheeler. The office is next to Aman Talkies, a cinema hall in Ulhasnagar.
“The two accused wore helmets and entered the premises around 3 pm. Both had country-made weapons. While the gun of one accused was jammed, the other accused was able to fire two rounds. They intentionally did not injure the manager of the office. Prima facie, it appears that they wanted to threaten Chaturvedi,” said Parag Manere, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).

The police identified the manager as Deepak Rajani, who was supposedly the only person inside the office at the time of the firing. He escaped unhurt.
Inspector S V Meher with Central police station said the accused came for Chaturvedi.
“Chaturvedi was at his home on Monday afternoon. He was provided police protection after a threat to his life in Diwali last year. We are investigating if last year’s and today’s threats are related,” Meher said.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered with Central police station.
The Thane police’s probe revealed that the firing was carried out by the gang members of the wanted fugitive Suresh Pujari.
An investigator said Pujari had made extortion calls to Chaturvedi in the recent past.
