Investigating officer Gurdeep Singh said they were in the process of lodging an FIR against the driver of the bus who fled from the scene after the accident.

The bus involved in the accident has been impounded.

The Indian Express tried contacting Dhillon but his phone was picked up by his assistant who said the Shiromani Akali Dal leader was with Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at Badal village.

Meanwhile, Kulbeer Singh Zira, vice-president of Punjab Youth Congress, staged a protest on the spot of the accident, and demanded that the first information report against the driver of the bus be lodged under IPC Section 304A, which is negligent driving amounting to death, rather than 304 IPC which is bailable.
