The Punjab & Haryana High Court on Monday dismissed the Haryana government’s appeal against a Rohtak district court’s March 30 decision to grant bail to Virender Kumar, former political adviser to former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, in a sedition case registered against him on February 24.

Rohtak district and sessions court had released Kumar on bail after he surrendered before the police on March 17. The Haryana government then moved the High Court challenging the decision.

The FIR against Kumar was registered on a complaint by Captain Pawan Anchal (retd), a Bhiwani resident. The complaint was based on a 90-second audio clip of a purported conversation between Kumar and Capt Maan Singh Dalal (retd), spokesperson of the Dalal Khap, allegedly inciting violence during the recent Jat agitation in Haryana.
