Mysuru professor arrested for ‘insulting’ Lord Rama

A 59-year-old professor of journalism at University of Mysuru, who allegedly hurt religious sentiments by “insulting” Lord Rama in a speech at a function at HRD centre in Mysuru last year, was arrested Friday and remanded in judicial custody for three days.

B P Mahesh Chandra Guru was sent to prison by a judicial first class magistrate after he refused to avail bail. A case was registered against him at the Jayalakshmi Puram police station.

According to Mysuru police, Guru was a guest at a function in the HRD centre and delivered a speech in which he “insulted” Rama. Guru is known to be outspoken and his views on various issues, including politicians, has earlier drawn the ire of various groups.
