Wreckage of a private vehicles is reported to be found near the Mumbai-Goa highway bridge collapse site on Sunday morning. The vehicle, reportedly a Tavera SUV, was located by Indian Navy personnel deployed in search and rescue operation in the Savitri river.
The search after Mahad bridge collapse on August 2 has entered its 11th day on Sunday. As per reports, the registeration number of latest vehicle discovered is MH04 GD 7837. The navy also released a statement in which it mentioned that there was a likelihood of two bodies being trapped inside the vehicle.
“The wreckage is found 300 Meters from the damaged bridge, in 4 to 5 meters of water. NDRF and District Administration authorities have been informed,” it said.
The operation to extract the wreckage will be jointly carried out by Navy divers and National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF). On Saturday, the divers had located wreckage of second MSRTC bus which was washed away in Savitri waters in the incident. 26 bodies were recovered and 14 others were missing as on Sunday and with this latest development, death toll may go up to 28.
