Kerala: R Sanker’s son to not attend statue unveiling in Kollam

Amidst the row over the unveiling of former chief minister R Sankar’s statue in Kollam on Tuesday, his son Mohan Sankar said he would not attend the function.

R Sankar had been a prominent leader of the Hindu Ezhava outfit Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam, which now erecting the statue, to be unveiled by the Prime Minister.

Mohan expressed his displeasure over projecting his father as an RSS. “I am pained by the move of certain quarters to depict my father as an RSS man. The SNDP Yogam and the politics of the Ezhava community should not go together,” he said. Mohan is also a district-level functionary of the SNDP Yogam.

He said he was keeping away from the function not at the behest of Congress, which has protested over reducing Sankar as an Ezhava leader.
