Sandeep Khirwar took charge as the Gurgaon Police Commissioner Wednesday, replacing Navdeep Singh Virk, who has been appointed IGP, Rohtak range. Virk left a “goodbye and thank you” message for the people of Gurgaon, saying he was leaving his post a “satisfied man” and was “content” as he had done his duty to the best of his ability, touching the “lives of the men on the street, knowingly and unknowingly”. He thanked the people of the city for supporting his initiatives, such as car-free day and the community policing programme, saying through such efforts, “we became partners in fighting crime”. Virk said his one takeaway from the post was the creation of a better relationship between the people and police. “So, as I prepare to leave, the one single takeaway from my stint as Commissioner of Police, Gurgaon, has been creating the people-police bond in Gurgaon. I like to believe that we all understand each other a little more, a little better,” he said. Meanwhile, Khirwar, the new police chief of Gurgaon, said he intended to focus on three areas: the reduction of crime rate in Gurgaon, improving the morale of police personnel and ensuring better traffic management. Khirwar, a 1995-batch IPS officer, has earlier served as IGP, security, with additional charge of IGP, railways and commando.
