THE MUMBAI Police Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe the killing of Haryana-based gangster Sandeep Gadoli, recorded the statement of Gurgaon Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajesh Kumar in connection with the case.
Police said Gurgaon Police Sub-Inspector Pradhyuman Yadav, arrested for allegedly staging the encounter in a hotel in Andheri, claimed he had informed his superiors, including ACP Kumar, before leaving for Mumbai.

“During his interrogation, Yadav claimed that as Gadoli was a wanted gangster, he was leading a team to the city to arrest him. He claimed the firing happened in the heat of the moment. He also claimed he had informed his superiors, including ACP Kumar, before leaving for Mumbai. That’s why, we asked Kumar to appear before the SIT to verify Yadav’s claims,” said a Mumbai Police officer. “As per our information, the Deputy Commissioner of Police too had been informed that a team was going to Mumbai from Haryana to arrest Gadoli.”
Family members of Gadoli have alleged the police team was sent to bump off Gadoli, shot dead by Yadav’s team inside Hotel Airport Metro near the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on February 7. While the Gurgaon Police team claimed they fired in self-defence, the SIT formed by the Mumbai Police concluded that the encounter was fake and filed an FIR against eight persons, including five policemen from Gurgaon. Family members of Gadoli have alleged a rival gangster had paid the Gurgaon Police team to bump off Gadoli.
