The Union Cabinet Wednesday amended Citizenship Rules 2009 and approved several facilities aimed at easing difficulties faced by minority communities of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan staying in India on Long Term Visas (LTV).
Among decisions taken at the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were to allow these people to open bank accounts and buy property.

The measures, which are aimed at providing relief to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from these three countries staying in India, also include permission to engage in self-employment, as well as issuance of driving licence, PAN card and Aadhaar number.
According to the government, power will be delegated to Collectors of 16 districts in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh for a period of two years to register them as Indian citizens.
The registration fees for citizenship will be reduced from the existing range of Rs 3,000-Rs 15,000 to Rs 100.
