THE FILM and Television Institute of India (FTII) will be organising a two-day event to mark the 95th birth anniversary of renowned filmmaker-editor Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The event, titled Smarananjali, will be held at FTII  campus from September 30 to October 1.

A series of panel discussions, presentations and film screenings followed by discussions — on his unique way of handling comedy, mentoring freshers and editing, as well as his personality traits — will comprise the event. The list of participants includes actors Jaya Bachchan and Ramesh Deo and director Kundan Shah. Shah will also inaugurate the event on September 30 at 10 am. Bachchan will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony on October 1. She will also introduce her debut film Guddi (1971), which was directed by Mukherjee, at the event.

FTII Director Bhupendra Kainthola said, “Smarananajali is the FTII’s way of remembering the departed icons of Indian cinema, who have have left indelible impressions in the collective memory of the film community. In April, we remembered legendary cinematographer V K Murthy. Now, the institute’s editing department took the initiative to reveal the best known and lesser known aspects of Hrishi da’s life and work, as an editor and filmmaker.”
