Pune: 4 members of Shikalgari gang arrested, weapons and masks recovered

Police said all the four are named in police records.

The crime branch of Pune city police arrested a gang of four notorious criminals who were reportedly preparing to loot a jewellery shop in Mundhwa. Police identified the suspects as Arjun-singh Rajputsingh Dudhani (32) of Manjari, Gorakhsingh Ganga-singh Tak (26) of Gosavi Wasti in Hadapsar, Lakhhansingh Dudhani (26) and Kismatsingh Bhada (31) of Ramtekdi in Hadapsar.

DCP (Crime) PR Patil said five members of the dreaded Shikalgari gang reached BT Kawade Road in a car at around 2.15 am. However, on seeing the police, they tried to run away. Police gave a chase and managed to nab four of the accused.

“The four dashed private vehicles used by the police team during the chase. Two cops were injured,” said DCP Patil. Police recovered sharp weapons, cutters, a small battery, screw driver and other equipments along with two plastic masks and a woolen cap from the suspects.

Police said all the four are named in police records. They have committed multiple crimes and investigation is on to ascertain their roles in some recent robberies and break-ins. Police said Arjunsingh was earlier booked in 30 offences, Lakhhansingh in 26, Kismatsingh in seven, and Gorakhsingh in six.

Police said the accused used to target shops and apartments in midnight hours. They used high-quality equipments for breaking in, and cover their faces with plastic masks. A local court has remanded the four to police custody till July 13. Police have also obtained CCTV footages in which the suspects are seen committing thefts.
