On Sunday,it will be four months since the German Bakery blast took place and a week since the Chief Minister announced the compensation of Rs 14.23 lakh for the bakery.
However,Kharoses, the owners, are yet to receive even a formal letter or an offcial call from the government regarding the compensation.
“We came to know of it only through the news in the media. We have not been officially contacted by anybody in the government department and have not received any cheque towards the compensation yet,” said Snehal Kharose, the daughter of the owner. Early this month,Chief Minister Ashok Chavan had announced the compensation in Mumbai.
The Kharoses are also struggling to get their loan sanctioned to rebuild the bakery by August. Kharose said they are also waiting for the architect to give an estimate.
The CM’s announcement has definitely come as a breather for the family as our sole income source was the bakery, said Kharose.
In a press statement of the CM,issued from the Mantralaya on June 4,the compnesation was announced for the German Bakery and its shop outlet Kwality Bakery, both of which were badly damaged in the February 13 bomb blast.
Kharose had sought nearly Rs 25 lakh as compensation in her appeal to the district collector and the mayor. She had also applied for a bank loan in the meantime. The government release said Rs 12.73 lakh of the compensation amount was meant for German Bakery and Rs 1.50 lakh for Kwality Bakery.
