82-yr-old held guilty of rape and murder of minor

According to the chargesheet,Kulkarni had molested the Class IV standard student a month before she was murdered. When the child complained about it to Rekha and her grandmother,Rekha talked to Kulkarni who increased her salary so that she would keep quiet.

On October 14,2009,when Kulkarni raped and murdered her,the girl had accompanied her mother to Kulkarni’s house. The incident took place when Rekha had gone out to get food. When Rekha returned around 1 pm she found her daughter lying unconscious on the terrace of the house. When Rekha took her to Poona Hospital she was pronounced dead. “While Kulkarni had confessed to Rekha about his crime,he told her that no one will believe what he had done considering that he was 79 (at that time) and the victim was 10 years old. He also convinced Rekha to make it look like Rohini had accidently strangulated herself,” the chargesheet stated.

Rekha had helped him clean the blood stains and change the girl’s clothes. “Kulkarni said if I told anyone that he had raped and murdered my daughter,people will get to know of our illicit relationship. He even given Rs 1,000 each to my mother and me when we were taking her to the hospital,” Rekha had told the police.
