Wadala custodial death: 8 GRP cops booked, shifted

The four youth were picked up for allegedly stealing a gold chain and a ring.

The Bombay High Court was Friday informed that eight policemen of the Wadala Government Railway Police were booked for their alleged role in the custodial death of a youth, and sexual abuse of three others held in a robbery case.

Justice V M Kanade and P D Kode were hearing a petition filed by Leonard Valdaris, and three boys including a minor, who were picked up by the police on the intervening night of April 15 and 16, along with Valdaris’s son Agnelo (24). Agnelo was allegedly tortured and killed in police custody.  The four youth were picked up for allegedly stealing a gold chain and a ring.

Eight policemenen – Senior Police Inspector J K Rathore, Sub-Inspectors Archana Pujari, Shatrugan Thondse, Head Constable Suresh Mane and four other constables, Ravindra Mane, Vikas Suryavanshi, Satyajit Kamble and Akeel Jamal – had been transferred to places outside Mumbai.
