A hoax hijack threat call delayed a Jet Airways flight and caused some tense moments Tuesday afternoon for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) that guards the airport.
A Mumbai-Diu-Porbander flight took off from the city airport at 1 pm. Around 1.50 pm, the CISF team at the airport received information from the Gujarat police that there was a threat call for the flight.
Around 2.20 pm, the flight landed at Diu airport. As the threat alert had been conveyed to the Diu airport, passengers had to undergo physical checks there. Even cabin bags and registered luggage were checked again, delaying the flight by over two hours.
“There was nothing objectionable found in the possession of any passenger and the hijack threat was found to be a hoax,” said CISF officials.
The flight finally reached its destination, Porbander, around 5.15 pm.
A few days ago, the CISF had beefed up security at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) after a message threatening to carry out an attack was found scribbled on a wall of a washroom on the airport premises. The message “ATTACK BY ISIS DATE 10/01/15” had been found written on the wall of a washroom at the Level 2 of Terminal 2 of the airport.
More armed CISF personnel have also been posted outside the airport ahead of the Republic Day.
