FIR against Sathaye College principal, other officials
The college had allegedly collected fees from SC/ST students and did not reimburse it.
The Vile Parle police have registered an FIR against the principal of Sathaye College, Vile Parle, and her colleagues under relevant section of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, as well as other sections of IPC.
According to an official from the state’s Social Welfare and Justice department, the college had allegedly collected fees from SC/ST students and did not reimburse it, thereby violating the rules of the state government.
“After a follow-up of four years by the students’ wing of MNS with Mumbai University, we finally received a letter from the university earlier this year. Following the letter, we filed an FIR,” said Avinash Devsatvar, 45, assistant commissioner, Social Welfare & Justice Department, Mumbai suburbs. He is the complainant in the case.

Principal Kavita Rege and her colleagues have been charged under sections 188 (disobedience to order, duly promulgated by public servant), 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC. “We have abided by the rules and never flouted any norms laid down under SC/ST rules by both the state government as well as Mumbai University. I have no idea about the FIR as police have not contacted me yet, nor am I aware as to why this complaint has been filed,” said Rege.
R Maharao, Senior Inspector of the Vile Parle police station said that the complaint was registered on Saturday. According to the FIR, Rege and other officials of the college had violated the rules of Mumbai university and the Social Welfare & Justice department of Maharashtra and have cheated the government.
