The Versova police station on Thursday recorded statements of cosmetic surgeon Dr Vijay Sharma in connection with its ongoing probe into the death of actor Shikha Joshi last week.
Sharma (54), told the police that the actor and her brother had demanded that he foot bills of a breast enhancement surgery in 2011 and had been filing criminal complaints against him when he refused.
In his statement, Sharma said that Joshi had visited his clinic in Khar in 2006 to undergo a breast enhancement surgery.

“At that time, Joshi had paid for the surgery. In October 2011, however, she visited Sharms’s clinic accompanied by her brother Vishesh. Sharma told us that Joshi wanted her breast implants replaced but wanted the doctor to pay for the surgery,” said an officer at Versova police station.According to the statement, both Joshi and Vishesh pressurised Sharma into agreeing to pay for the procedure, but he refused.
“Sharma said that Joshi then registered a case of molestation against him at Khar police station,” the officer said. The trial in that case is currently under way at the Bandra Court.
Sharma’s statement adds that Joshi and Vishesh hurled stones at his (Andheri West) home in November 2013
because they were afraid that the case would be decided in Sharma’s favour, the police said.
A police officer added that Joshi had also registered a non-cognizable offence against Sharma in Delhi.
The police are now waiting for Joshi’s mother to reach Mumbai, so as to record her statements. A post-mortem report received from Cooper Hospital has ruled the death as a suicide.
“Doctors at Cooper Hospital have told us that the wounds were self-inflicted and not by another person,” the officer said.
Joshi, who was last seen on the big screen in BA Pass in 2013, died on May 16 in the home of a friend in Andheri after allegedly slashing her throat with a knife.
The police said that she had been depressed in the week leading up to her death due to being unable to find work.
A video clip recorded of Joshi in her dying moments allegedly mentions that Sharma and a few married men had been troubling her.
