Punjab mother-son suicide: SAD-BJP leaders stage dharna, extend support to Ahrtiya

Leaders of the ruling alliance, SAD-BJP, leaders came out in support of Ahrtiya Teja Singh and blamed farmer unions for the incident.

THREE DAYS after a Cheema Jodhpur-based farmer Baljeet Singh Ballu and his mother Balveer Kaur killed themselves after they were asked to vacate their house, leaders of the ruling alliance, SAD-BJP, leaders came out in support of Ahrtiya Teja Singh and blamed farmer unions for the incident.

A group of SAD-BJP leaders Thursday led a dharna at the office of the Barnala SSP along with members of Barnala Ahrtiya and Beopar Mandal Associations and alleged that it was some farmer union members who ‘instigated’ the duo to consume pesticide and not the ahrtiya, who was arrested. They demanded registration of FIR against the members of farmer unions and asked for cancellation of FIR against Teja Singh and four others. They even threatened a state-wide protest otherwise. So far, three persons have been arrested. They are the Ahrtiya, Teja Singh, and his friends.
