On hunger strike, Khalsa taken into preventive custody

On the 39th day of hunger strike of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, ADCP (Crime) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said that he had been taken into preventive custody and a case had been registered against him. His treatment also started as his health was deteriorating and he was refusing medical treatment.

Police force in a large number reached the Civil Hospital where 82-year-old Khalsa was kept. His son Ravinder Singh Gogi, Gurdeep Singh Bathinda and few others were also arrested.

On Thursday, the Shiv Sena Secular held a rally in support of Khalsa.

ACP Satish Malhotra, when contacted, said, “We have taken preventive measures as we want to get treatment of Surat Singh Khalsa started.”

Khalsa had been on a hunger strike demanding pre-mature release of Sikh prisoners languishing in jails across the country. He had started the strike at his house in Hassanpur village but more than a week back, the police had brought him to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana.

However, Khalsa refused to take any treatment and consumed only nimbu paani.
