Reserve 27% MBBS seats for OBC: UPSBCC
The state has around 14 private medical colleges offering MBBS course to 1,550 students and 25 dental colleges with 2500 under-graduate seats.
The Uttar Pradesh State Backward Class Commission (UPSBCC) has requested the Akhilesh Yadav government to ensure 27 per cent reservation for OBC students in private medical colleges.
“There is nothing wrong in it. We have received representation from OBC organisations about reservation of seats in private medical colleges. Such a system is prevailing in Madhya Pradesh so it can also apply in UP,” Ram Asrey Vishwakarma, chairman, UPSBCC told The Indian Express.

“I have asked the medical education department to summon a meeting of these private medical colleges and direct them to give reservation to OBC candidates in their institutions. A compliance report has also been sought from them,” Vishwakarma said.
The UPSBCC chairman also claimed that 27 per cent reservation for OBC candidates will also be earmarked in various government jobs which are outsourced. “The service provider in various departments like health, panchayati raj, municipal corporations have to ensure that 27 per cent jobs are reserved for OBC even if they are on contractual basis. I have directed concerned departments to ensure this,” he added.
Even organisations where government has 49 per cent stake have to revise their employment schedule and reserve 27 per cent seats for OBC as per the directions of State Backward Class Commission.
He added that demand for another 23 per cent reservation for SC and ST candidates will soon follow. “There is no harm in it. We already have government orders for such reservation in UP since 2008 but people do not follow them. I will ensure that it is implemented in all government departments,” Vishwakarma said.
