Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Sunday gave financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh each to 51 acid attack victims and assured the girls that his government will bear the entire cost of treatment.
The government had invited 60 acid attack victims from across the state to receive the financial assistance although nine did not turn up. Cases of these victims were registered between February 3, 2013 to February 5, 2015 in various districts.
The CM said that more financial help would be given to the victims after assessing their detailed medical examination reports.

The financial aid was given out from the newly-created Uttar Pradesh Rani Laxmibai Mahila Samman Kosh. On the occasion, Akhilesh said incidents of acid attack are a blot on the society and they should be stopped. He stressed that the interest of women cannot be ignored and that his government will ensure quick action against culprits in such cases.
Akhilesh credited his wife and Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav along with principal secretary, Women Welfare department, Renuka Kumar for the creation of the fund. He said the state government has made a provision of Rs 100 crore for the fund in the budget of next fiscal.
The CM also launched the web portal dedicated to the UP Rani Laxmibai Mahila Samman Kosh through which amount of financial assistance would be directly credited in the bank account of the acid attack victims in future.
A district-level steering committee under the district magistrate will send names of victims for financial assistance after a deputy SP-level officer and a medical officer have approved the FIR and medical report of the victim.
During the programme, the CM also honoured 20 women village pradhan for successful implementation of development schemes and 19 other women for excellence as well as bravery in various fields like sports and contribution towards women empowerment. Each was given Rs 1 lakh and awarded certificates of appreciation.
