The executive council of the Aligarh Muslim University Saturday recommended five names to the to the AMU Court for selecting next vice-chancellor. The names of Prof Furqan Qamar, secretary general of Association of Indian Universities; Jawed Usmani, Uttar Pradesh's chief information commissioner and former chief secretary; Seyed E Hasnain, former vice-chancellor, University of Hyderabad; S Ahmad Ali, pro-vice chancellor, AMU; and Prof Tariq Mansoor, principal and CMS, JN Medical College, AMU, have been recommended, according to university spokesperson. [related-post] The special meeting of the executive council was presided over by outgoing V-C Zameer Uddin Shah. "The members considered a panel of 24 names, obtained through wide consultation. Nine names were proposed and shortlisted and put to vote. Out of these five names are being put up for consideration by the Court," AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar said in a statement. He added that, according to the Statutes of the University, V-C is appointed by the university's Visitor from a panel of at least three persons recommended by AMU Court.
