Derek OBrien is TMC Chief Whip in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress has named Derek OBrien as its Chief Whip in the Rajya Sabha. The party,which is a key constituent of the UPA government,has sent a communication in this regard to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat,sources said. The communication comes ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning on August 8. Currently the Vice President of the party,he has been a member of Rajya Sabha since August last year. The party has nine members in the Rajya Sabha.

Pollution device out of order,HC seeks report

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday asked the state government to place a status report on the Remote Sensing Device,which was procured for detecting polluting vehicles in Kolkata. In a petition on the issue of night pollution in Kolkata. Environmentalist Subash Dutta has alleged that the Remote Sensing Device purchased by the government in 2009 for checking polluting vehicles is out of order for the last few months.

Moreover,he alleged,that the government has not fulfilled the High Courts order,issued in 2011,on purchasing three more such devices.
