Delhi Police arrested a 40-year-old Ola cab driver on Thursday on charges of misbehaving with an additional sessions judge and making obscene gestures in front of her. The judge had booked the cab last Saturday and following the alleged misbehaviour, an FIR was registered on her complaint at north Delhi’s Roop Nagar police station. The driver, Sandeep, was arrested from Gurgaon, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Madhur Verma, but declined to share details. According to a source aware of the case, the complainant told the police she booked the cab after finishing work and and asked the driver to pick her up from court. “On the way home, she asked him to stop the cab at Kamla Nagar Market and wait. She alleged the driver started misbehaving with her and said he would not wait. She alleged he threw her bag after making obscene gestures,” said the source. [related-post] On the basis of victim’s complaint, police registered the case under sections 354A (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 427 (causing damage to property) of the Indian Penal Code. In an official statement on the incident, Ola said, “The said driver has been blocked from our platform with immediate effect until further investigation. We will take all the necessary actions and will extend our full support to the authorities in resolving the matter”.
