A 25-year-old conductor was pulled out of a bus by his cousin and his men and beaten to death at Gurgaon’s IFFCO Chowk at about 6 pm Monday, his family has alleged. The murderous assault on Amit Dabas took place at one of Gurgaon’s busiest intersections and near a police booth, yet no one came to his aid, his family alleged.
Based on the family’s complaint, the police have registered a case against Vineet, son of Amit’s aunt, his associates Parvesh, Ravinder and another unidentified person.
The family claimed that Vineet targeted Amit due to a business rivalry over bus routes and operations. An attempt to murder Amit was made a few months ago, too, with a case registered at a police station in Delhi. The rivalry had turned vicious in three to four days leading up to the attack.
Ram, a cigarette stall owner at IFFCO Chowk intersection, said many people saw the assault and thought it was “just another fight”. “We did not intervene. Such fights take place every day,” he said.
Amit’s family has also alleged that officers of the Sector 17/18 police station and Udyog Vihar police station kept passing the buck over jurisdiction. It took the family more than 12 hours to get the FIR registered at Udyog Vihar police station in the early hours of Tuesday.
Hawa Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, denied the allegations and said an FIR was promptly registered.
According to police, Amit himself had called up the police control room seeking help after the assault. He was taken to the hospital by the driver of the bus.
