A study released by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) India has pointed out that the estimate by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) — about the number of trucks entering the capital in a given period — is seriously flawed.
Based on the findings of a survey conducted at nine major entry points for commercial vehicles, the CSE has claimed that at least 70 per cent more trucks enter the capital every day.
The survey, commissioned by CSE, was conducted by using video recording at these entry points between June 29 and July 18. All categories of trucks and other commercial vehicles in the MCD’s database were counted, said CSE experts.

“This study has become necessary as it is clear that Delhi cannot fight its battle against pollution without addressing the enormous pollution contributed by the trucks crossing its borders daily. The delay in building the two expressways has cost the city dear in terms of pollution,” said Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director of CSE.
This survey, conducted by M/s V R Techniche Consultants Pvt Ltd, covered the nine entry points through which nearly 75 per cent of commercial vehicles enter the capital.
