The BJP and the Congress criticised the ruling AAP Friday, describing Asim Ahmed Khan’s sacking as deception and an attempt by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to save himself.
Congress Delhi unit chief Ajay Maken said Kejriwal’s move to remove Khan was only an attempt to “save his own skin”.
Maken asked why Kejriwal did not take a high moral ground when his law minister Jitender Singh Tomar was arrested for forgery of his law degree (Tomar resigned after his arrest), former law minister Somnath Bharti was arrested for violence against his wife and MLA Manoj Kumar was arrested for cheating?

“The party that has been formed to fight corruption is finding itself in such a position. What about the files that he (Asim) has signed over the past eight months?” asked Maken.
“Self-Proclaimed champions of Honesty — In 234 days — 6 Ministers/MLAs accused of fraud, corruption, wife beating, 420 etc. Average-1 in 39 days!” Maken tweeted.
BJP state unit president Satish Upadhyay described Khan’s removal as “mere deception” and demanded Kejriwal’s resignation.
He said Khan’s role in the “onion scam” and the killing of a youth, Shehzad, at Turkman Gate should also be probed.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said Kejriwal’s attempt to project the matter as a “situation of virtue” was ironical as the former had no option but to remove the minister.
“One of his ministers has been caught red-handed taking a bribe and there was no option but to sack him. Faced with a situation like this, what Kejriwal is trying to do is make it count,” Patra said.
Meanwhile, former union minister and Congress leader R P N Singh claimed that had a Lokpal been constituted, “possibly the whole Delhi Cabinet would have to resign”.
“So many scams even when there is no Lokpal. Had Lokpal been there, imagine how many of these ministers would have been in jail,” he said.
Former Congress MLA Mukesh Sharma demanded a special session of Delhi Assembly to discuss the corruption issue and called for the cancellation of the membership of all AAP MLAs facing corruption charges. (with PTI inputs)
