The department of Delhi archives has resubmitted its proposal for the digitisation and micro-filming of the archival records.
When the department had submitted it earlier, it had been examined by the planning department, which had made some observations about it.
“Now, the department of Delhi Archives has resubmitted the proposal after clarifying the points raised in these observations,” stated a senior official.

Explaining the benefits of digitisation and micro-filming, a senior official said digitising the data would ensure the long-term preservation of archival records. Transferring the information to a micro-film format would also ensure efficient and easy access to it.
This will also reduce the actual physical handling of such documents, which lead to decay, said the official.
Other benefits of the digitisation process would be “efficient storage and dissemination of data and images and information security,” said the official.
The process will ensure that only authorised users access the data and relevant information is accessible to respective users.
The process is aimed at reducing the mishandling and decaying of paper day by day.
Many believe that this technique will be more user-friendly in operational terms as it will provide users uniform access to rare data, whenever and wherever required.
