Family members of the two children and the man hit by bullets have accused Safdarjung hospital of not treating them properly and discharging them in a hurry. “The bullet which is still stuck in Anurag’s neck will never be taken out as the family has no money for his operation,” said the boy’s uncle.

All three were initially taken to BK Hospital in Faridabad, from where they were referred to Safdarjung hospital. Abhishek and Bhardwaj were soon discharged from the hospital, but Anurag had been put under observation.

Anurag’s uncle Ajit said doctors at Safdarjung hospital discharged him without treating him properly. “His bullet is inside and doctors told us it will take a huge amount of money for operation. His father is a driver… how can he arrange a big amount?” Anurag has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking help from him in the matter.

Anurang’s father, Arun, said, “He was admitted to Safdurjung hospital on June 16 and discharged on June 20. The doctors gave us some medicines and asked us to come next week.”

According to doctors at the hospital, operating on Anurag initially would have been risky, with chances of critical nerves in his body getting affected and hampering movement. “He was admitted for 4-5 days, given all necessary emergency treatment and evaluated properly. He has also been called for follow-up. Disturbing the bullet immediately after injury could have affected critical nerves due to its position. We are waiting to see his recovery first,” said a doctor.

Suresh, father of the other injured boy, Abhishek, said nobody helped them and he had spent Rs 15,000 so far but his son was still not fit. “At least the air force officers should come forward and take responsibility for the treatment of our children.”

The other victim, Sudhir Bhardwaj, said a “commander rank officer” came to meet them and said he would extend some support, but nothing had materialised so far.
