The JNU Students’ Union Joint Secretary from the ABVP lodged two written complaints against an associate dean for giving permission for the February 9 event and professor Nivedita Menon for her alleged remarks supporting pro-Afzal slogans allegedly raised in the event.

The complaints were lodged by Saurabh Sharma, JNUSU Joint Secretary, at Vasant Kunj police station.Sharma told The Indian Express, the DSW was aware of the alleged anti-national event held on February 9. “DSW knew about the anti-national activity which was going to be held on the campus. But he gave the permission despite knowing what was going to be happen,” said Sharma adding, “I have also lodged another complaint against Professor Menon because she gave speeches in support of the event”.
“She has tried to incite the students for indulging in anti-national speech. We are holding classes on nationalism but what is she teaching us?,” said Sharma. In his complaint Sharma said: “Everyone knows that India is illegally occupying Kashmir. It is said the world over. Everybody accepts (it).
“The ABVP also lodged a police complaint against the JNU associate dean for giving permission for the event on hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru during which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.In the complaint he said: “I request you to kindly take strong action against the concerned authority that had given permission and silently supported February 9. ” The Joint Secretary also said he had given a complaint to the JNU administration but no action was been taken after which he approached police.
While the associate dean was not available for his comment on the issue, Prof Nivedita Menon, who teaches at the Centre for Comparative Politics and Political Theory at the School of International Studies in JNU said, “I don’t believe anything I said was anti-national”. Police officials confirmed that the two complaints were received but said no FIR had been registered yet.
