For the fifth time, the parking contractor of Sector 22 Kiran cinema parking lot was caught fleecing commuters by overcharging.
The enforcement wing of the municipal corporation issued a challan to the contractor for the fifth time in a month. Instead of Rs 5, the contractor was charging Rs 20 from the car owner.
Joint commissioner Virender Chaudhary said the contractor would be dealt strongly as per the terms and conditions of the agreement. “Let me check it out with the branch. If its verified, we would initiate process to suspend the license.”

Sources said the officials even might write to the police to lodge a case against the contractor. The team found the contractor violating several norms repeatedly — parking attendants without uniforms and name plates, non-functioning CCTV cameras and no e-ticketing machine
Last time, the contractor was found charging car owners Rs 10 against Rs 5 and two-wheelers Rs 5 against Rs 2.
The civic body is conducting back to back checks and issued challans after it was reported how the parking attendants were fleecing people by overcharging.
The civic body has now decided to have smart parking solutions and to do without contractors. They will have a common server through which all the parking lots of the city will be monitored. The common server will have the details of each parking lot – how many cars have come in every hour and if there is any haphazard parking in the city.
