The project was to get complete in 2015. The multi-level parking facility, which can accommodate 931 cars at the same time, will be free of cost for the first four months after inauguration.
The municipal corporation will make arrangements to make the parking lot near Empire store vehicle-free. All the vehicles parked in this lot will be shifted to the multi-level parking after it is made operational.
Later, other crowded parking lots of Sector 17 will also be vacated and the cars will be made to park in the new multi-level parking lot.
The civic body had allotted the construction work of the multi-level parking to a company on October 15, 2013, after its proposal was mooted in 2011.
The multi-level parking lot, spread over an area of 4.78 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 46.62 crore, will be equipped with solar panels for lighting in the future.
It will have eight lifts and three levels will be underground.
It will be fully automatic with two computerised ticket counters at the entry and exit points. There are two ramps for entry and exit of vehicles.
