The much-awaited multi-level parking in Sector 17 is likely to be thrown open to residents in the second week of April.

The date for the inauguration is likely to be around April 15 depending on the schedule of Haryana and Punjab Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki.

“The Governor will inaugurate the project. We are trying to get his date for the inauguration. Once we get the final date, we will inaugurate the parking lot. It would be completely ready by April 15,” said a senior official.

The project was to get complete in 2015. The multi-level parking facility, which can accommodate 931 cars at the same time, will be free of cost for the first four months after inauguration.

The municipal corporation will make arrangements to make the parking lot near Empire store vehicle-free. All the vehicles parked in this lot will be shifted to the multi-level parking after it is made operational.

Later, other crowded parking lots of Sector 17 will also be vacated and the cars will be made to park in the new multi-level parking lot.

The civic body had allotted the construction work of the multi-level parking to a company on October 15, 2013, after its proposal was mooted in 2011.
