The SSP said, “Even after the deadline is crossed, we cannot challan the residents at random. We can only challan them on the basis of a notification from RLA.”

Currently, the RLA has started putting HSRP number plates on vehicles with series CH04J, CH04K and CH04L at the RLA office in Sector 17; SDM (South) office, Sector 42; SDM (East) office; and Industrial Area, Phase I.

Rajni Kanojia, a resident of Sector 45, said, “There is so much rush at the vendors from where we can get our HSRP affixed. The backlog is bound to be there, with less number of people to do the job.”

Simranjeet Singh, a resident of Sector 19, said, “I am only worried that the police will start challaning me and the time is running out.”

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic Administration) Pawan Kumar said that in March first week this year, the RLA had sent a notification giving some grace period to the owners of vehicles with series which were being challaned.

“The RLA sent us a notice that we must not challan anyone because they were giving another chance to those whose series had been completed to get the HSRP.

The time lapsed on March 31 and we have started the challans again,” said DSP Pawan Kumar.
