The second ENT Surgical Update started on Thursday and was inaugurated by Prof R C Deka,Director of AIIMS,New Delhi. In his inaugural speech,Deka congratulated PGI on its Golden Jubilee celebrations and highlighted the close relationship between PGI and AIIMS since the 1970s. The function was also attended by Dr Yogesh Chawla,director of PGI; Prof S B S Mann,former head of Otolaryngology in PGI; Prof Ashok Gupta,Prof Naresh Panda,and Dr Sandeep Bansal.
The three-day workshop started off with the dissection of a cadaver by Prof Ashok Gupta at the Bhargava Auditorium. Gupta said that this time advanced cadaveric dissection course had been added to the basic course and demonstrated each procedure to the participants.
There was a short lecture session where various surgeons shared their experiences on Rhinology. Dr Imtiaz M Qazi,a consultant at the Al Sabaah Hospital in Kuwait,explained the various intricacies involved in Rhinoplasty.
Dr Saurab Varshane,an expert in endoscopic skull-base surgery explained the various steps of transphenoidal pituitary hypophysectomy.
These were also other lectures on various domains of endoscopic sinus surgery by different faculties. The afternoon session consisted of live surgeries including functional endoscopic sinus surgery,endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy,balloon sinuplasty and powered adenoidectomy.
