Gujarat: For second year in row, class XII science results record decline by over 7 per cent

This year again, girls have outshone boys, widening the gap to nearly 3 per cent against a margin of only one per cent that was recorded previous year. This year, girls have recorded 80.95 pass percentage against 77.97% of boys.

When asked about the possible reasons on this decline in results, Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama told The Indian Express, “Though 7-8 per cent is not a significant decline, there could be not one, but several reasons combined for this decline. For instance, installation of CCTV cameras could be one, semester system could be another.”

As many as 1,38,632 students were registered at total 131 centres and sub-centres. Out of this, 1,34,598 took their examinations. While 1,06,372 have qualified for pass certificates, the results of 2,380 candidates have been withheld. A total of 105 copying cases have been registered of whom results have been reserved. Anand reported 23 copying cases, the highest number of unfair mean cases (UMC) in any district. This was followed by Amreli with 18 and Vadodara with 9 cases. The pass percentage of non-medical stream recorded 81.30%, higher than medical (76.32%). As many as 99 schools recorded a 100 per cent result while 28 schools recorded less than 10 per cent result.

Hindi, Marathi and Arabic recorded 100 per cent pass percentage. Chemistry turned out to be the subject with least pass percentage (82.435). Mathematics, physics and biology recorded around 83%.

Repeating previous year results, this year again, both Gondal and Rajkot topped the list with highest results among examination centres and districts, respectively. While Gondal recorded 97.17 per cent, Rajkot was the highest pass percentage district at with 93.83 per cent. While Limkheda recorded the lowest result (22.61%), Chhota Udepur this year again recorded the lowest result (31.52%). Further, the tribal districts of Dahod, Narmada, Panchmahals and Chhota Udepur were among the least-scoring districts, with lowest pass percentage.
