Realising the seriousness of the spread of dengue fever, the state government on Monday admitted that out of 7,200 suspected cases, 730 were confirmed as dengue across the state. In Ahmedabad, out of 327 suspected cases, 200 were confirmed by the civic administration. They asserted no death had been reported in the state over dengue in the current year.
These figures were revealed at a high-level meeting of health department officials at New Civil Hospital in the presence of Civil Hospital Superintendent M M Prabhakar and in-charge Medical Officer Dr Bhavin Solanki on Tuesday. “On its part, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed 10 construction sites. in the city on Tuesday over mosquito breeding,” he said adding that the sealing drive was going to continue for a few days.

To educate the public about preventing dengue, he said the AMC had registered around 120 schools in its website and asked others to register to apprise themselves about the fever and the risks involved. The AMC will also inform schools of protective measures.
Dr B S Jesalpura, joint director of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) told reporters that dengue was caused by aedis egypti
mosquito which would bite only during the day and that it lived in clear stagnant water.
“There is no specific treatment for dengue in the initial stage of about five days but once the warning signs like bleeding, fever, vomiting, haemorrhagic fever, high blood pressure, persistent headache,muscular and joints pain start showing up, one would have to be hospitalised at the earliest”, he said.
