overview

A rejuvenated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be looking to make a strong comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after a seventh-place finish last year. They will also have their regular captain Shreyas Iyer back at the helm, who missed the last season due to injury.

KKR signed up ex-captain Gautam Gambhir as a mentor for the upcoming season. They also broke the bank for Australia seamer Mitchell Starc who is returning to the league after a long hiatus, signing him up with a Rs 24.75 crore bid at the IPL 2024 auction. They will be hoping to win the tournament for the third time this summer after their recent additions to the side.

Gambhir led the franchise to two IPL trophies in 2012 and 2014. However, since then the franchise, in spite of having excellent players and very good sides, could not get across the line. In 2021, the franchise, after struggling in the early part of the tournament, made a resounding comeback in the second half and reached the final. Nevertheless, the title slipped away from them and the trophy went to Chennai Super Kings.

Two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL 2024 opener on March 23 at Kolkata.

KKR squad for IPL 2024: Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Shreyas Iyer (c), Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy, KS Bharat, Chetan Sakariya, Mitchell Starc, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Ramandeep Singh, Sherfane Rutherford, Manish Pandey, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Dushmantha Chameera, Sakib Hussain.
