La Liga 2017/18 is the 87th season of the Spanish top division football in its current format. Named as La Liga Santander for commercial reasons due to its association with Bank of Santander. The season is scheduled to begin on August 18 and ends on May 20, 2018 with the initial fixture list announced on July 21. Real Madrid come in as the defending champions having broken their long league title drought. 20 teams will compete - as always - with Levante, Girona and Getafe promoted from the Segunda Division. They have taken the place of Sporting Gijon, Osasuna and Granada.
