Micromax yesterday launched mid-budget premium - Canvas 6 and Canvas 6 Pro - at Rs 13,999. The smartphones are the new 'flagship' devices for the Indian handset manufacturer. For Micromax, the new Canvas 6 series represents an attempt at reinventing itself for the consumers, an urgent task for the company given the rise of Chinese competition. So how do the Canvas 6, Canvas 6 Pro fare against their biggest competitors? We take a look at Canvas 6, 6 Pro vs the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, the LeEco Le 1s and Lenovo Moto G Turbo, which in our opinion are the top mid-budget smartphones right now. Read more here
Canvas 6 is the first metal, unibody design smartphone from Micromax, but strangely the Canvas 6 Pro is all plastic. Both phones come with a full HD, 5.5-inch display , but as we know that this is nothing new. Read more here
Competitors like Xiaomi, LeEco, even Lenovo with its K3, K4 series have been offering a full HD display in this price range, so Micromax is technically still playing catch up with the competition. Both phones are powered by MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core processors. Read more here
Canvas 6 has 3GB RAM, 32GB storage space, a fingerprint scanner on the back (again this is missing from the Pro). Canvas 6 Pro has more RAM (4GB), but less storage space (16GB). Xiaomi Redmi Note 3: As we had noted in our review, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is a stellar comeback smartphone from the company. It’s got one of the most vivid displays for its price-range, works smoothly and has a 4050 mAh battery, which will last more than a day and half, even with heavy usage. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 comes with 3GB RAM, 32GB storage space and expandable storage option, fingerprint scanner on the back; all for Rs 11,999 making it cheaper than the Canvas 6. LeEco Le 1s: Another Chinese player that impressed us is the Le 1s, which offers a premium stylish aluminium design, a fingerprint scanner on back, 3GB RAM, 32 GB storage space all for Rs 10,999. In our review, we like the Le 1s’ full HD display, with its super thin bezel and ability to work well in sunlight. The general performance of the smartphone is also quite good, although it does heat up at times. Read our review of LeEco Le 1s here
Overall, the Le 1s appears to be a great value for money device. In a separate one month review, we had however pointed out that there were network connectivity issues with the Le 1s, which users should keep in mind. Also it supports Type-C USB charging, meaning you can never forget the cable. Read our one month review of LeEco Le 1s here
Lenovo Moto G Turbo: Lenovo Moto G Turbo might not offer a big full HD display, but when it comes to performance this device is as solid, and will appeal to those who love stock Android. Plus the Moto G series has gotten the Android 6 Marshmallow update in India, so again if you want the latest OS, Moto G Turbo might be a better option. Read more here
Moto G Turbo edition is also water and dust resistant, which is another big point in its favour. There are not too many budget options in India, which offer this feature. The cameras, both the front and the rear ones, work great if you are using the phone outdoors with ample lighting. Read more here
Conclusion: Micromax Canvas 6, Canvas 6 Pro are the company’s latest attempts to woo the customers. However as we can see, the market currently has a lot of high-quality competition to offer, so it won’t be an easy ride for the new phones. Read more here
