Deepika Padukone and Daily Mail have history. Remember when Deepika stepped out of a restaurant in London with tennis ace Novak Djokovic and the tabloid had no idea who she was. The best they could come out with was with "female companion". Fans couldn't keep calm and they were forced to update their article with Deepika's name in it. As the xXx: The Return of Xander Cage made her international red carpet debut at MTV European Music Awards, Daily Mail is at it again. They have named her among the worst dressed celebs list and termed her look 'Bollywood Blunder'.
The Daily Mail’s exact words read as follows, “Bollywood blunder: Indian actress Deepika Padukone may be stunning but her swamp green bralet and skirt combo did nothing for her sensational figure.” The actor featured in an article in the British tabloid which was titled, "From nipple flashing to Eurotrash bling to curtain-fringe 'chic', the prize for the worst-dressed guest was a VERY close contest at the MTV EMAs." But when you go through the rest of their list and the pictures that go with it, it is kind of hard to understand exactly why Deepika landed here in the first place.
Guess who else was on the worst dressed list along with Deepika Padukone. Here, take a look -- reality star Elettra Lamborghini (the one in sheer catsuit), Chloe Ferry (the see-through gown), Anne Marie (the wire mesh dress) and Kenz (the curtain fringe dress). While Deepika could have done better, did she deserve to be in the list? Deepika was dressed in a Monisha Jaising ensemble with shades of green. She accentuated her look with black belt, green statement danglers and stilettos.
The star of xXx: The Return of Xander Cage co-presented the Best Video Award with actress Nina Dobrev to the Canadian artiste The Weeknd. And as we all know, it was his big win for the song Starboy from the album Starboy. This appearance was so much more than a red carpet appearannce.
Whatever Daily Mail says Deepika, we loved your look and how you channelled your inner Serena Unger. And a special shout-out for wearing an Indian designer on international stage.
Daily Mail, it seems, just can't get Deepika padukone right. What do you say?
Singer Charli XCX was on the list for her tacky '70s number while Charlotte Dawson's nude dress gave her an entry on the worst dressed list. Model Ann-Kathrin Brommel made it there as she flashed her nipples in her chainmail dress.
Talking about presenting the award earlier, Deepika had said, “I was pleasantly surprised when I got the invite. It is very gracious of them to invite me. I have grown up watching the MTV awards and I didn’t think that one day, I would be walking down the red carpet and presenting an award at this global music event. It’s a step forward in my global career,” Deepika said in an interview with DNA.
This was Deepika Padukone's debut red carpet appearance on the world stage.
