With 24 hours left before polling, contestants make last-ditch efforts to woo voters
Padyatras, public meetings and flying visits by party stalwarts marked the final day of campaigning in Chandigarh on Monday.
The campaign could not have ended better for RJD candidate Haffiz Anwar-ul-Haq as RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav landed from Bihar to pitch for him. For this first timer, the presence of the RJD top gun was a major boost.
If Lalu was RJDs champion, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha was the BJP hero. Addressing a rally in Mauli Jagran in his characteristic style,Shotgun managed to charm the people. Residents had gathered in large numbers just to catch a glimpse of the star.
Meanwhile, youth wings of both the BJP and Congress organised motorcycle rallies to boost strength. With scant respect for traffic rules or safety, the activists were seen openly driving without helmets as the bikes zipped past various sectors.
Congress bowed to girl power today with women activists campaigning to the beat of dhols. The BSP campaign concluded with a public meeting at Milk Colony while Independent candidates could be seen meeting residents in various sectors and colonies.
Even as the day ended, the city was awash in poll colours with party flags flying high over markets and residential areas.
