Former Union minister and Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela has called for the formation of a state reorganisation commission to consider the demands of new states.
Vaghela was leading a Congress rally to mark the partys 125th anniversary.
He referred to the demands of separate states while briefing the media.
He said the creation of small states carved out of Assam has not served any purpose as some of these states consist of two districts.
He said the state government has hastened the passage of the mandatory voting Bill without proper discussion to take advantage in the local body elections scheduled next year.
He added that the Congress is bracing up to take on the BJP in the local civic body polls and the panchayat elections.
Vaghela also criticised the state governments announcements to hold 50 Garib Kalyan Melas in the next three months.
He said that while 45 lakh youths in the state were ensured employment in the last four vibrant Gujarat summits, barely 4,500 have managed to get jobs.
