Various universities and other educational institutes in the state have been forced to consider rescheduling of examinations after the poll dates were announced for the Assembly elections – from April 18 to May 10.
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination is scheduled on April 17 – just a day before the first phase of voting in 54 Assembly segments is scheduled in North Bengal. About 1 lakh 30 thousand students will appear for the JEE this year.
We are considering the situation and are yet to take final decision on this matter. We will take a call on this as quickly as possible, said Siddhartha Datta,chairman of the JEE Board.
As per Supreme Court guidelines,the results will have to be declared before June 15 and the board officials are of the opinion that the examination should be conducted on April 17.
Similarly the Calcutta University has rescheduled its final year (Part III) BA/ BSc/ B Com Honours examination scheduled from April 19 to May 18. The university authorities – after a meeting of the examination committee today – decided that they have no alternative but to reschedule the examination. The Part 1 and the part II examination of the university will also be held after the elections.
Similarly,examinations of the engineering faculty of Jadavpur University is also likely to be postponed. Satyaki Bhattacharya,the controller of the examination of the university,said that the authorities of the university will meet on March 8 to reschedule the examination.
