Modi surveys Uttarakhand from sky

Chief Minister Narendra Modi,who reached Dehradun Saturday,said Uttarakhand tragedy was a national disaster and expressed solidarity with the victims.

Destruction in Uttarakhand has reached the stage whereby it should be treated as national disaster, said Modi in Dehradun during his two-day visit to the state ravaged by flash floods and landslides.

Thousands of Gujaratis visit Uttarakhand every year for Chaar Dham yatra. According to an estimate by the Gujarat government,around 5,000 Gujaratis visited there this year.

After undertaking an aerial survey of parts of Uttarakhand,Modi tweeted,There is a need of food,medicines and rescuing those who are stranded there.

Modi also met Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna. The Gujarat CM reportedly also offered help in rebuilding Kedarnatn temple complex. The main Kedarnath temple can be restored by the temple trust. But Gujarat can build a modern temple complex surrounding the shrine, an official press release quoted Modi as saying.

Earlier,Modi also met Uttarakhands former CM

B C Khanduri,a BJP leader.

He held a meeting with team of Gujarat IAS and IPS officers led by Relief Commissioner Poonamchand Parmar.

The team has been camping in Uttarakhand since June 19.

Meanwhile,the chartered plane that carried Modi to Dehradun Friday night brought back seven women affected tourists from Dehradun to Ahmedabad.

The disaster management centre in Gandhinagar said some 200 buses have gone from the state to bring the pilgrims back.
