Withdrawal of monsoon is yet to be complete, but the winter chill is in,with minimum temperature touching 15.6°C in the city on Saturday morning, marginally lower than the lowest temperature recorded in October last year. The met department attributed the low temperature to north-easterly winds. Daytime temperature, however,is still hovering at 30°C. On Friday, minimum temperature was 17.3°C. Last year, the lowest October temperature was15.9°C,which went down to 13.8°C in November and 6.5°C in December. In January this year, the lowest temperature was 9.1°C,which went up to 10.4°C in February.
With temperatures dipping, the state recorded a slight fall in power demand reducing deficit. Officers with the power utility said this will help in catering to demand that is projected to rise during Diwali season.
The total power deficit for the state on peak hours of Saturday was around 4,800,which had once gone up to 6,000 MW.
Nishikant Raut of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation said,Since Sunday we stopped loadshedding in major parts of the city. We had divided the city as per losses incurred. Low-loss areas have started getting uninterrupted power. Supply for areas with higher losses has been improved.
